Incentivize people to subscribe to your email list with a giveaway prize draw.

A Subscribe-to-Win giveaway does not require referrals.

Instead, it allows you to incentivize people not already on your email list to sign up by offering them the chance to win a grand prize (or several).

For instance, as part of a book or course launch, you could give away copies of your book or course to people who sign up for your newsletter the week before launch.

Subscribe-to-Win giveaways work particularly well if you have a large social media, popular podcast, or a YouTube channel with a substantial viewership.

These are people who already know and trust you, but may not have known or been motivated enough to sign up until now.

How to create a Subscribe-to-Win giveaway

Step 1: Outline your strategy

The first thing you want to do is decide on your giveaway strategy.

  1. Who will you be inviting to enter the giveaway?

  2. What prize will you be offering them? And how many people can win a prize?

  3. How long will the giveaway run for?

  4. Where can people enter the giveaway? Do you have a landing page and a welcome email set up for people who want to enter?

Step 2: Create the giveaway in SparkLoop

To create a new giveaway:

Head over to the Giveaways page and click the Create giveaway button.

A form will open up where you can choose the settings for your giveaway.

Fill out the settings.

For a Subscribe-to-Win giveaway, you want to deselect Advocates in step 1, and select New subscribers in step 2.

Once your settings match your strategy, click the Start Giveaway button on the top right of the screen.

If you’ve already announced your giveaway but forgot to create it in advance in SparkLoop, that's not a problem.

⚠️ For a SparkLoop giveaway, you can set both the start and end date to be in the past.

Step 3: Run the giveaway

Announce the Giveaway and run it as normal.

For a Subscribe-to-Win giveaway, you don't need to include your referral links anywhere or have the SparkLoop tracking script on your landing page.

The automatic sync functionality of SparkLoop will pull in new subscribers from your ESP automatically, allowing us to pick the winner for you once the giveaway has ended.

Step 4: Finish the giveaway

When the giveaway time period ends, you will be notified by email.

You can then go into the Giveaways page of SparkLoop to pick the winners.

By default, SparkLoop will draw (pick) the correct number of winners for you at random from all valid entrants.

If you aren't happy with one of the winning subscribers (for instance, if it's a team member of yours), you can choose to select new winners.

Once you have drawn the correct number of winners, you should:

  1. Notify them.

  2. Consider sending a consolation email to people who entered but didn’t win.

  3. Publish the winners in your next newsletter (ideally with a photograph).
