How to set up SparkLoop's TruEngagement feature to automatically screen out "machine" openers from your partner program

What is TruEngagement?

do you ever look at your newsletter stats and think... "I wonder how many of those opens and clicks were actually made by real people?"

Considering the rapid expansion of Apple MPP (which obscures email opens) and B2B firewalls/spam filters (which register "fake" clicks), it's a genuine issue that affects 10-20% of your audience.

Especially if you're paying for subscriber acquisition...

How can you be sure that the subscribers you're paying for — the people your ESP tells you are opening and clicking — are genuinely engaged readers?

Introducing: TruEngagement

At SparkLoop, we want you to feel confident that your Partner Program is your #1 source of quality newsletter growth.

That's why we spent months building a new feature — TruEngagement — that automatically detects referred subscribers whose opens or clicks are "obscured".

You'll be able to run these screened subscribers through custom email sequences to "prove" their engagement.

And then you can reject and unsubscribe anyone who still hasn't shown clear human engagement with your content.

So you can be 100% confident you're paying only for genuinely engaged (human) readers... not "machine" clicks or opens.

Beta Access

Currently TruEngagement is available only as a invite-only private beta for publications on ConvertKit, Beehiiv and Sailthru.

During the private beta, some functionality is limited and you may (hopefully rarely) experience bugs or partial outages. The normal functioning of your partner program will however not be affected in any way.

To request access to the private beta, please contact your partner program account manager.

Setup Instructions (ConvertKit)

Step 1: Add the TruEngagement pixel to your email template(s)

Step 2: Create the TruEngagement Status custom field in ConvertKit and sync with SparkLoop

Step 3: Create an automation in ConvertKit to screen "precached" openers and ensure you're only paying for genuine readers

Setup Instructions (Beehiiv)

Step 1: Add the TruEngagement pixel to your email template(s)

Step 2: Create the TruEngagement Status custom field in Beehiiv and sync with SparkLoop

Step 3: Create a segment and automation in Beehiiv to screen "precached" openers and ensure you're only paying for genuine readers

(instructions coming soon — a bug in the beehiiv dashboard is preventing us from recording this video, however we're working with their support team to help them fix the issue)

Questions

Q: "I'm stuck or have a question — where can I get help with TruEngagement?"

A: Please reach out to your SparkLoop account manager with any questions or for help with setup. They'll be very happy to hear from you and will help straight away.

Q: "Can I see the TruEngagement status of subscribers who were acquired from some other source? (ie not from my partner program)"

A: Unfortunately not at this time, no. We are investigating this as a future feature request. If this is something you're interested in, please share this with your account manager to help us prioritise.

Q: "Can I see statistics in my dashboard about which subscribers have "masked" opens (eg Apple MPP, Gmail, Outlook) and why?"

A: Not yet, but in the very near future this will be possible (before the private beta is expanded to general release).

If this is something you'd be interested in, please share details on what information you'd like to see (and how you'll use it) with your account manager, so we can make sure we're building the right solution for you. Thanks!
