Changing your ESP can seem like a big, daunting step both for your newsletter and your referral program.

Which is why, at SparkLoop, we endeavor to make this a mostly hands-off and completely pain-free process for you.

If you’re changing your ESP, we want you to get in touch with us so we can help you make it a seamless process that’s both effortless for you and invisible to your subscribers.

Let's talk about what happens when you change your newsletter ESP.

What happens when you switch ESPs

If you haven’t yet set up a SparkLoop campaign

Your SparkLoop account is tied to your ESP, so changing your ESP directly impacts your campaign.

If you signed up for SparkLoop and imported your list, but never set up or ran your campaign, the easiest thing to do is to reset your account and start anew.

To do this, simply contact us and we’ll get it sorted for you quickly.

If you’re running a SparkLoop campaign

If you’re already running a SparkLoop campaign, changing ESPs is a more complicated process, and we recommend that you let our developers take care of it.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Please contact us before you make the switch to your new ESP so we can make the process smooth for both you and your subscribers.

Our engineers will change API keys, connect to your new ESP, and make any necessary data transfers. We’ll need you to remain available during this process so you can authorize the integration and provide relevant details.

In order for us to make the switch, you'll need to send us:

  1. The name of the ESP you're migrating to.

  2. The API keys for your ESPs.

⚠️ Please note: During this transfer, no new referrals will be tracked.

How long will it take?

The biggest step in changing ESPs is migrating the subscribers from one ESP to the other, and that’s something that will be done on your end.

That said, while resetting your account will take no more than a few seconds and connecting to your new ESP a few minutes, the re-sync of the list can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days depending on the size of your list. (For more on that, read this.)

We recommend setting aside planning time of between 24-48 hours before making the switch and an afternoon to set up your new ESP with SparkLoop.

Once the integration is complete, make sure to test your emails and links as well.

All in all, this is unlikely to be a process that takes much more than a day, but we'd advise against scheduling any newsletters or promotional events during the shift.

Will all referral links and codes change?

Nope. Because we’re not making any changes in SparkLoop, everything in your campaign will remain the same, including links, referral codes, and rewards.

As far as your subscribers are concerned, nothing has changed.

⚠️ Don’t forget to set up new welcome and reward emails for your subscribers after you’ve moved to the new ESP!
